  • Look around and you will see machines everywhere; computer powered technology. We are living in a world where almost everything is powered by computers. They are useful in various aspects of life. When talking about the computer, the first thing that comes to mind is gaming. True enough, the application of computer is evident in the gaming industry. However, the computer is also useful in various industries such as medicine, engineering, and business sectors.

One man who became interested as to how computer works and their impact on human’s daily living is Dov Katz. He is a robotics expert who’s passionate about computer and modern technology as a whole. He is from Israel and graduated from Tel-Aviv University with a degree in computer science and electrical engineering. He moved to the United States to further improve his knowledge of computer and machine learning and has continued his research to this day. He took up his masters and doctorate degree in computer science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His move to the United States was a big decision but something that he didn’t regret. He had the opportunity to further improve his knowledge about computers, especially when he had the chance to have his post-doc fellow at the Robotics Institute.

The big break in his career was his time with Oculus; a company that focuses on modern technology. He was a senior engineer of Oculus and was in-charge with the company’s big projects. One of the notable work of Dov Katz is the Oculus Rift VR. He was a part of the team that designs a headset that delivers an immersive experience; more like a 3D effect but way better. Dov Katz was the one who created the original position tracking system. It was a success. Facebook bought out Oculus for $2 billion. Dov Katz was promoted as the head for computer vision and remain with Oculus until such time that it was acquired by Facebook.
